GIRL SCOUTS VISITÂ
MARY HALLOCKÂ FOOTE
Special Girl Scout Patch Program at Foote Park
On October 20, 2019, 20 Girl Scouts, with troop leaders and parents, braved the cold, rainy weather to participate in a special event - earning a Foote Park Patch. The Patch Program provides opportunities for girls to learn about local events and places as part of the Girl Scout's goal for girl experiences.
The site co-founders Janet Worthington and Mary Ann Arnold developed an educational and fun event for girls to experience history and the arts as well as STEM activities.

Inspired by the drawings of Mary Hallock Foote, the Girl Scouts produced sketches of the magnificent scenery in the canyon. In addition, they demonstrated their engineering skills by creating a section of a lava rock wall similar to that constructed by Arthur DeWint Foote in 1885.

Despite the weather, everyone had a wonderful time earning this special patch.
The event was coordinated with the Girl Scouts - Silver Sage Council.

Ann is shown above on Foote Park Donor Dedication Day between the Project Co-Chairs: left - Janet Worthington; right - Mary Ann Arnold. Ann represented the Foote family with her support of the project with contributions and permissions from her family's archived documents. She currently lives in Berkeley, California and traveled to attend the Boise event. She has remarked many times as to her amazement that two people not related to the Foote Family would have the determination to build a project in Idaho to commemorate her great-grandparents.
DONOR DEDICATION DAY

October 13, 2018

This special event was held to honor donors to the Foote Park Project. The Co-Chairs welcomed and thanked the 60 plus donors and their families who attended. Thanks and appreciation was also extended to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who were instrumental in the completion of the Foote Park Center. Through their permissions for the project and improvements to the site, Foote Park was made possible. After remarks from members of the Corps, Janet Gallimore, Executive Director, Idaho State Historical Society gave the dedication speech, thanking the Co-Chairs and donors for this gift to the community.

" We drove to Foote Park with very little knowledge of the interpretive center. It was set on the Boise River overlooking a beautiful view setting very near where the Foote family built their family home. While we walked through the outdoor interpretive center and read about this family (they had audio boxes that explained the perspective of Mary and Arthur). It was a beautiful set-up and very informative, taking us back in time and teaching us how much things have changed but how people thought similar to how we do now with their hopes, their dreams, aspirarions and day-to-day life worries."
